IMCC College of Radiologic Technology Students Reap Two Awards in DOST 10-NorMinCoHRD's 5th Regional Health Research Conference

Student-researchers from the College of Radiologic Technology bagged two awards in the recently-concluded 5th Regional Health Research Conference conducted by the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development (NorMinCoHRD) of the Department of Science and Technology Region 10 last November 16-18, 2022 at PRISM Bldg., MSU-IIT, Iligan City.

Mr. Emerson Paul D. Somontan and Mr. Prince Eroll V. Reyes presented their research entitled, “Development of an X-ray shielding material based on eggshells and crab shells”, in two different undergraduate competitions. Mr. Somontan competed in the oral research paper presentation while Mr. Reyes participated in the virtual abstract poster competition. 

Mr. Somontan bested five other entries endorsed by the different member-institutions of the consortium in the region and bagged the first place while Mr. Reyes garnered the second place out of the nine regional qualifiers.
 
Mr. Somontan qualified as a national finalist in the 16th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week to be held in Tacloban City next year. Alongside with him is Mr. Reyes who will also present his undergraduate thesis on natural products which was awarded a financial grant by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development.
 
NorMinCoHRD is one of the regional health research consortia of the country under the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS). NorMinCoHRD was established in 2008 through the initiative and support of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD). The consortium is sealed by a Memorandum of Agreement entered into by the various national government line agencies (NGAs), state universities and colleges (SUCs), private higher education institutions (HEIs), hospitals, local government unit (LGUs) and non-government organizations (NGOs) that have shared goals in finding solutions to health and nutrition problems besetting the region through research and development (R&D) activities. Currently, the consortium has 15 active member-institutions.
